These terms explain how you may use Marcus's Choice (marcuschoice.com). By using the site, you agree to them. Our Privacy page explains what we collect.

The service

Marcus's Choice is a free website that asks a few questions and suggests books or series to read next. You can browse without an account. If you sign in, you can keep a personal library of titles, shelves, and ratings to improve later matches.

Who may use it

You must be at least 13 years old. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian should review these terms with you. Do not use the service if you are not allowed to do so where you live.

Google sign-in

Sign-in is optional and uses Google through Supabase. We ask Google only for the usual sign-in profile (account id, name, email, and photo URL if Google provides one). We use that information to create and recognize your account, show your name in the header, and attach saved books to you. We do not read Gmail, contacts, Drive, photos, or other Google services, and we do not post to your Google account.

You can sign out from the header at any time, or revoke access in your Google account under Third-party access.

Your library and quiz answers

If you choose to save data with us, you are responsible for it:

Quiz answers for a visit stay in your browser (session storage) so we can finish the recommendation flow.
Saved books while signed in (title, author, Open Library work id, shelf, rating, and subjects) are stored with your account. That includes books you rate in the app and books from an Open Library CSV you upload.

You grant us permission to store that information and use it only to run the site for you: showing your library, matching later searches, and keeping you signed in. You can remove books from your profile. Do not upload files you are not allowed to share.

Acceptable use

Please use the site in a normal, lawful way. Do not:

Try to break, overload, or scrape the service in a harmful way.
Impersonate someone else or use another person's account.
Upload malware, or content that is illegal, or that you do not have the right to provide.
Use sign-in or saved data for anything other than finding and tracking books on this site.

Book data and recommendations

Suggestions come from public catalogs such as Open Library. Catalog records, covers, and availability can be incomplete or wrong. Recommendations are informal reading ideas, not professional advice, and we do not guarantee you will like a title. We do not sell books or process payments.

Third parties

The site is hosted on Vercel. Sign-in is handled by Supabase. Book lookups go to catalog providers. Those services have their own terms. We are not responsible for their content or downtime.

The service as-is

We provide Marcus's Choice as-is, without warranties. It may change, break, or stop. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for lost data, missed recommendations, or other damages that come from using or not being able to use the site. If a court finds this limit too broad, it applies to the fullest extent permitted.

Changes and ending use

We may update these terms. The date at the top is the latest version. Continued use after a change means you accept the new terms. We may suspend or close accounts that violate these terms. You may stop using the site at any time.
